What does the Construction Quote Builder do?

It turns a list of materials and labor into a priced, professional quote. Add your line items, set a markup and Tax/VAT rate, and it works out the subtotal, markup, Tax/VAT and total — then lets you download a branded PDF to send to the client.

How is the total worked out?

Each line is quantity × unit price. Materials and labor are added to a subtotal, your markup percentage is added on top of that, and Tax/VAT is applied to the marked-up figure. So a R13,400 subtotal with 15% markup (R2,010) and 15% Tax/VAT (R2,311.50) comes to R17,721.50.

What is markup and how is it different from profit?

Markup is a percentage added to your costs to cover overheads — transport, tools, insurance, admin — and your profit margin. It’s applied to the combined materials and labor subtotal before Tax/VAT. Set it to whatever reflects how you price; enter 0 to quote at cost.

Can I set my own currency and Tax/VAT rate?

Yes. The currency symbol, markup and Tax/VAT are all free to edit, so the tool works wherever you are. If you’re not registered for Tax/VAT, set the Tax/VAT rate to 0 and it drops out of the quote.

Is my quote data uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything you type stays in your browser and the PDF is generated on your own device — nothing is sent to a server. That means it also works offline once the page has loaded.

Does the PDF include my business details?

Yes. Your business name, address and contact details appear at the top of the quote, alongside the client’s details, the quote number, date and validity period. Fill in the fields and they flow straight into the PDF.
